Experience: When we think of desserts, it’s cakes, puddings and ice creams that comes to mind. In Hong Kong, however, the perfect way to end a meal comes mostly in the form of a bowl of warm soup or sweet custard. These traditional Cantonese desserts are known as tong sui (糖水). Each shop has their own secret recipes, some passed down through the generations, and most of them consist milk, beans, herbs and fruits. Don’t know where to start? Order the mango pancake, mango sago, glutinous rice balls and egg waffle to start, and see how much space you’ve left for some bean curd soup, tofu pudding or glass jelly.
Kiki & Amèl’s favourites: Mango pancake & HK egg waffle.
